Have I Got Enough?

So the other day I was sorting through my skincare to see if I had any empties to get rid of.
And above is the outcome of everything I own at the moment, Im lucky enough to get all my skincare from work, which is amazing to try out new things.
Now looking at this photo I have done a few reviews on most of the products, but there is still so much I need to tell you about!
So this will be my reminder to do a skincare updated post soon :)

Clarins Cleansing Routine

Back at the beginning of this blog I done a post of my Cleansing routine.
But since working for Clarins that has completely changed, my whole routine is pretty much all Clarins.
My current Cleansing routine is the Clarins Cleansing Milk with Alpine Herbs for Normal/Dry Skin and the Toning Lotion with Chamomile for Normal/Dry Skin.
Below is a photo of the Salon Sizes which I am lucky enough to have as they will last me forever.

If you were to purchase from the counter then you would get a bottle that looks like this.
The good thing about this toning lotion compared to others is that it is alcohol free.
Before Clarins I was sucked into using the Clinique toner, which if your into your cosmetics you will know it is basically like a paint stripper for your skin, and if it stings your face then stop using it as it shouldnt be doing that.
Clarins toner is perfect for the skin as it contains all natural ingrediants and will help cleanse the rest of your face.
A lot of people tend not to use a toner but this is why you should.
Your cleanser will remove 60% of makeup or any pollution picked up on your face through out the day and then your toner will remove the 40% and it will also close the pores that your cleanser opened which is highly important.
You will also notice remaining makeup that did not come off from the cleanser!

Sparkly Poppy Day

Diamond Poppy!!!
Just wanted to show you all my amazing poppy which I wore for Remembrance day this year
Bedazzled poppy at its best!! Always wanted one of these!!!

Lancome Christmas Love

So Christmas is coming up fast and like any normal cosmetic junkie there is a load of new products I want.
The beauty box this year is a good purchase and I seem to want it all because its sparkly!!
Now I was talking about a Lancome Doll Eyes mascara in a past post and how I wanted to try the new Betty Boop one, which is Hypnose Star Mascara.
They have the mascara in a gift set for £21.00 which is the same price as the mascara on its own, so you get to try an eye pencil and eye make up remover for free. Its a no brainer really.
This is defiantly going onto my Christmas list.
The next Christmas gift idea is the Christmas Beauty Box. Every year its always a battle of who has the best Christmas blockbuster, and I think Lancome has defiantly taken that title this year.
Its defiantly more modern than the Estee Lauder one this year.
It comes in the nicest sparkly beauty box along with -
  • A full size Bi-Facil eye make up remove
  • Full size Blusher
  • Full size limited edition eye palette
  • Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate
  • Visionnaire
  • Mini Crayon Kohl
  • Hydra Zen Cream SPF 15
  • Mini Hypnose Drama
  • Mini Hypnose Classic
  • Mini Absolu Rouge 06 and 132
  • Galateis Douceur
  • Tonique Douceur
Perfect for any age, and it has everything you would need for day and evening looks, along with a good range of their skin care products.
On counter you can get the whole set for £45 when you buy another product which I think has to be over a certain amount, or you could purchase online for £75.
But be quick they sell out fast!!!!
Last and not least, is the newest Lancome Perfume which was launched this summer.
La Vie Est Belle
When this perfume first launched I fell completely in love with it, as it smells exactly like candy floss.
If you love sweet perfumes then you will adore this.
This is 100% on my Christmas list as I have decided I cannot live without this perfume in my life ha ha.

You can also pick this up in the choice of two sets for Christmas
The 50ml set for £55.99 which comes with the body lotion, or the 30ml set which is £39.00, complete with a small body lotion and shower gel.

Rimmel Clean Finish Foundation

Another new foundation that I picked up while in America.
I dont think this one is avaliable in the UK yet but it soon will be so heres a quick review for when you can get your hands on it!!
The one above is the foundation I brought, you can also get it in a Matte version as well.
It says it gives a 100% poreless look without clogging your pores, with oil control.
It comes with a spatula attached to the lid which I don't usually like the idea of but this foundation is so thick there is no way you would get it out the bottle without it.
It was about $4 which is insanely cheap for foundation and now I know why.
The coverage is full, but it does not last through out the day and makes skin look dull rather than glowing. You have to work rather quickly with it as it drys quickly and oxidises on the skin, no matter what colour you try.
Not something I will be repurchasing when it finally comes to the UK.
I am yet to find a Rimmel foundation that is any good.

Revlon Lip Butter Competition

So I came home the other day to a little parcel from Revlon.
I didn't even know that I had won the competition so it was a lovely surprise as usual when you get free make up :)
The competition was on the Revlon Facebook page where you had to answer a question about that weeks Britain's Next Top Model episode.
And I won the Revlon Lip Butter in Creme Brulee.
I would never usually wear this colour on my lips, but I have completely fallen in love with this lipstick, it gives a nice nude look to the lips with a hint of shine.
Look perfect with a brown smokey eye and a winter warm tan, now I'm going to have to try out all the other colours!!
Thank Revlon for another great give away x

USA Faves

So I still haven't really updated about all the products I got while I was out in the USA.
I pretty much love it all, so here's a few of my favourites which I have been loving through October.
Now I know I'm pretty late with this one but the Urban Decay Naked Palette.

God knows why its taken me so long to purchase this beauty, eyes are always a statement when I do my makeup and the Naked Palette has every colour you will ever need to do a subtle smokey eye day or night.
If I get time I will do a blog on different looks you can do with the palette and what colours to use as well :)
If you haven't already, grab this from your nearest counter, pricey but sooo worth it, it also comes with a little bottle of Eye Shadow Primer Potion which I would highly recommend to keep any eyeshadow at bay.
Naked Palette 2 is next on my list.
Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes Mascara.

Now I went out there with an intention of picking up a Lancome mascara as I tried out the new Betty Boop Mascara which launched in the UK in the summer, and I found it utterly amazing when I used it.
Doll Lashes was good but it didn't give the separation that the Betty Boop version did.
However it is still a really good mascara especially if you want volume, but I did find it went clumpy quite quickly.
Lancome Betty Boop is next on the list.
Revlon Powder Blush in Smoky Rose.

Picked this up while I was in Walmart, this was the second blusher of the trip, the other being the one from MAC.
Purely went for this as I have always heard good things about Revlon and it was very similar in colour to the Rimmel one that I use but I was finding it wasn't bright enough on the skin.
Absolutely love this blusher, you can get it in your local drug store and its not going to break the bank, it gives a lovely warm colour to the cheeks and lasts through out the day.
So if your looking for a reasonably priced blusher, hit up Revlon.

EOS : Evolution Of Smooth

Before I went to America I saw a lot of beauty bloggers on instagram taking photos of these little beautys and everyone raved about how good they are, and they certainly looked intriguing.
If your like me and you live in the UK then you would never of heard of these before and unfortunatly you wont be able to get them here.
So many celebs have been papped using these.

Im a sucker for cute packaging and EOS definatly gives you that, they come in a range of different colours and flavours which smell lush.
They are 100% natural and 95% organic. It also says they do not test on animals, and its gluten - free which I found very interesting haha!
If you are in the states or your visiting soon then you can pick these up from stores like Target or Walmart.
And occasionlly they will bring out limited edition sets, like the Alice in Wonderland set I picked up.
Cutest thing about this set is that the grips on the side are shaped like mickey mouse.
It contains Blueberry Potion, Watermelon Wonderland and Sweet Vanilla Nonsense.
I made sure I picked up enough to last me till my next visit :)

MAC Haul

I knew that while I was in America that I wanted to stock up on all my MAC products so I thought I might as well wait till I go to America as the exchange rate will be good.
I ended up in the Millennium Mall in Florida where they have a MAC Pro Store which is where Ive got most of my products from before, however I went back to this store a few times while I was on holiday and I could not look at anything nor would I have been given the time of day either which is a shame. So instead I opted for the MAC counter at Macy's which was a lot quieter and I am SOOOOO glad I decided to buy from there as I ended up meeting the loveliest mac makeup artist ever. I spent about 45 minits on counter just chatting to her about moving to America and doing makeup and it was such an insight into how to get your foot in the door over there.
She was also amazing at her job, and so approachable. I pretty much knew exactly what I wanted besides the lipstick.
I was tempted to try out St. Germain as Ive heard and seen such good things, but when I tried it on it defiantly wasn't me. Instead I went for I'm Passioned which I totally have fallen in love with.
I took this photo while I was away of what I brought at the counter.
  • Pro Longwear Foundation NC35
  • Mineralize Satinfinish SPF 15 NC35
  • SheerTone Shimmer Blush in Peachykeen
  • Amplied Lipstick in Im Passioned
  • 182 Kabuki Brush
The whole lot came to about $156 which I thought was pretty good, considering the brush was $50. Mental money for brushes!!!!
The lipstick is so vibrant but doesn't look too much when you put it on, and its a nice pinky coral colour, looks lush with a tan and it last for hours too.
Ive only ever had a MAC cream blusher before which I was too keen on, so I opted for a powder with a hint of shimmer on it which leaves a beautiful shine to the cheekbones and highlights them!
I needed a new kabuki brush for my bronzer, this one is super soft and does the job, but a bit on the pricey side as it came to $56 I think!!!

Visiting the US of A

Soon I'm making my yearly trip to America which I cannot wait for, one thing in particular that I am looking forward to is the shopping. I go mental for the shops out there, especially make up and beauty.
I pretty much buy most of my products while I'm out there, so as a lot of my readers are from America I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what I should buy this time around and what shops I should be visiting?

If any of you can answer the following then please comment below or leave a tweet on my make up account which is - @gemmasmakeup

  1. Make Up Brushes ? What brand and where to buy from?
  2. What are the best make up brushes in Sephora ?
  3. Any trade shops for make up and beauty through out the US?
  4. Make Up Forever? Is it worth it?
  5. Any other shops, products and brands I should pick up ?

If anyone has anything to contribute or could answer any of those that would be great, or if you want me to pick up anything to review then let me know as well. Cannot wait to start shopping and doing reviews when I'm back :)

Clarins Kohl Eye Pencil

This is part of the new Autumn collection which contains some beautiful stuff!
This new Kohl Eye Pencil is amazing, now usually I would just use my usual Rimmel eyeliner which has served me well over the years but the only problem is that it has no staying power what so ever and there's nothing worse than wanted smokey eyes if it keep rubbing off!

However I put this one on the inside of my bottom lid and it was jet black and really made my eyes stand out, and it actually lasted for hours without rubbing off!!

I'm seriously impressed with this product and the cute long pencil as well.
Its in the new limited edition range for £15 go get it while the counters still have it girls :)

Origins Super Spot Remover

Now over the past few months I have done some monthly wish lists and Ive recently purchased a few of the items on there.
One in particular I have been after for a while now is the Origins Super Spot Remover.
I picked it up for around £9 instead of the usual £12 which I was pleased about.

The packaging is really cute but you only get 10ml which doesn't seem like a lot, but to be honest you hardly need that much of the gel anyways and I imagine it is going to last me a while.

I'm usually not into putting anything on my face when I have bad skin as I'd rather just let it breath and get better but I have heard many other bbloggers rave about it and a lot of beauty junkies so I just had to try it.

And I completely agree with everyone I think its amazing!!!!!
It takes down the redness and massively reduces spot size and eventually they just disappear within a few days of applying. Ive never used a spot treatment cream that works so well.

It has Salicylic Acid in it which helps fight spot and blemish marks!

I use it twice a day in the morning and at night time after cleansing my face!!!
I would defiantly recommend purchasing this and I will defiantly be re purchasing in the future.

Paris - L'occitane

Haven't blogged for a while as I have been away in Paris which was beautiful!!!!
Defiantly didn't want to come home, the weather was amazing and we went to Disneyland as well and I loveeeee Disney so it was really great.

However I didn't do any makeup shopping while I was there but I did pick up the L'occitane Hand Cream which was in my hotel room ha ha!
Now Ive never used L'occitane before but it seems to be a big thing in France.
Its made for dry skin and it contain Shea butter in which is amazing for dry skin, its really rich and feels lush on my hands and it smells amazing as well, many hand creams Ive used before have always smelt horrible but this one is really nice and it comes in a small handbag size as well which is the 10ml and it costs £8 in the UK  which is a lot for such a small bottle so you might as well just go bigger and pay that little bit more.

I'm defiantly going to check out the L'occitane line and see if theres anything else I can pick up for skincare :)

Revlon Nail Competition

Last month I won the Revlon Nail competition that they held on their UK Twitter account.
It was over the weekend of the Isle of White festival and all you had to do was retweet the photo of nail art and you could win everything they used to do it.
I was lucky enough to win the Floral Noveaux design which looked like this -

It took about a month to receive my prize but this is what I got in the photo below.
I got the
 Revlon Nail Care Base Coat
Nail Care Top Coat
Revlon 731 in Knockout (Black)
Revlon 211 in Charming (Lilac)
Revlon 040 in Fuchsia Fever (Pink)
And a nail art brush.

Revlon is defiantly one of the best nail brands out there and I think this was such a generous competition and hopefully there's more to come.

Thanks Revlon UK

John Lewis Lipstick Organiser

If your a make up junkie like I am then you will have a lot of make up all over the place and nowhere to present it nicely.
I picked this up in John Lewis the other week, its an acrylic lipstick holder which also holds lipstick brushes in the middle as well.

Its cute and small enough to fit into the shelves I have in my bedroom and makes everything so much more organised.
Only problem is you can only fit in oval shaped lipsticks, so no squares here please.

July Wish List

My current July wish list...

  • The Revlon Photo ready Foundation, make up artists have been saying this is amazing for the kit so I must try it out.
  • Benefit Sunbeam. Looks amazing with a tan for summer. High lights the cheek bones perfectly.
  • Urban Decay Naked Palette. THE most talked about brown eye shadow palette. Obvious reasons for this one.
  • Hd Brow Palette. Still on my want list, must order online asap!
  • Candy Sprinkles Nail Wraps. Cannot find these anywhere but I will get them!!
  • Mac Satin Finish Foundation. Need to replace my empty bottle for a dewy shimmery look.

Elegant Touch Envy Nail Wraps

A few weeks ago I won the Twitter competition with Elegant Touch, I won the Zebra Print Nail Wraps.
Ive never used nail wraps before, Ive always heard such bad things about them, and how hard they are to use.
But recently a few of my friends have been using them and they look amazing. There must defiantly be a bit of practise makes perfect with these and I cannot wait to try them.

Ill do a post of them and how I got on when they are done.

Estee Lauder Price Update

So in the last couple of weeks Estee Lauder have put up the prices for their cosmetics!
Instead of your Double Wear Costing £26.50, it will now cost £27.50.
Now I think £26.50 was enough for the foundation, its one of the most expensive on the high street, and its right you do pay for the quality.
However there are many other high end brands that have just as good foundation but cheaper.
Estee Lauder know that everyone loves the products and customers will pay for it anyways, I mean I cant live without my Estee Lauder Double Wear, but in the recession we are in now, women will eventually be looking else were for the foundations or only be wearing it on special occasions!

Below is my current Double Wear collection, so I hopefully wont be running out anytime soon haha

MAC Pro Longwear Foundation

Hey guys! I thought id do this post today on a MAC foundation that I have had for a while now, and I think this is one of the first posts I'm doing on a MAC product which is crazy!!

I brought this foundation back when I was in America last year. When I was speaking to the make up artist in store I said I wanted a foundation with the same staying power that Estee Lauder's Double Wear has.
And this is the one she recommended.
Ive had some MAC foundation before but Ive never really been impressed, as i think the colouring is Way to orange for me.
The colour I brought it in is NC35, when first applied to the skin it looks a seriously orange colour, but in fact once its left to dry it looks so natural on the skin, with a really good full coverage.

Staying power?

I wanted another high end foundation to mimic what double does for staying power. Pro Long Wear claims it  lasts for 15 hours also, and I think that is partially true, not as good as DW but still good through out the whole day and doesn't come off on clothes either.

The coverage is really good for this one, I would defiantly say medium to full, although MAC say its sheer to medium. It hides blemishes and gives skin that all over even flawless look. The colour changes to fit my skin perfectly.

Unlike normal liquid foundations that are easy to apply because they spread so well, pro long wear is a lot harder to work with, as it doesn't glide on the skin as easy and doesn't go as far as other liquid foundations. I tried applying it with a brush but gave up as it was too hard and taking too long. I finished off with my fingers in the areas that needed it.

Another good point is that it looks great in photos, leaves a really natural dewy look, and gives you a nice tanned colour to the skin, unlike the double wear which makes you look like a ghost.
Highly recommend this product to anyone, and especially good to have in your kit bag in a range of colours as well.

Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser

Following in from my last post this is a review of the Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser with Cottonseed.

I prefer to cleanse with water, as it seems to be the most effective way at removing stubborn make up, especially long lasting foundation.
Before Clarins I had been using the Simple Foaming Cleanser for a good few months which was doing me well and I thought it worked well. It would remove most of my makeup but it found it harder to dissolve it completely.

Where as this product has no problem in removing make up at all. In fact its the only cleanser that I can say leaves my skin squeaky clean. It is unreal, it removes all of the makeup I'm wearing even long wearing foundation which I usually find hard to remove. It comes out creamy, and lathers up when applied to a damp face.

The product is plant based and is soap free and treats the skin at the same time. It will also help to stop the drying effect that water does to the skin.
I use the one with Cottonseed for Normal or Combination skin. You can also get it for Combination/Oily skin or Dry/Sensitive skin.

Clarins Toner

Toning lotion is a must after cleansing, and there are so many people that don't bother to do it.

Here is why you should :

When you cleanse your skin that removes 60% of your make up and daily grime, and your toner will remover the 40% So for a fully cleansed face you need to use a good toner.
It also helps to close up the pores that were opened while you were cleansing.
A lot of people cleanse and see a clean face staring back at them, but once you apply toner you realise just how much residue is still left on the face, so there is prove that you need toner to remove the excess.

There are many Toners on the market, and a lot of them contain alcohol (Clinque) Which is clearly harmful for your liver, so its obviously not going to be good for your face. So when looking for a Toner go for an all natural one so it prevents your skin being stripped and being damaged from any unnecessary chemicals.

After using a Toner with alcohol in I went onto using the Clarins Toner with Camomlile, which is for people with normal to dry skin. At first I didn't like the smell of it, but Ive got used to it and it smells just like plants because it has natural ingredients.
I love it because it doesn't sting to put on and it hasn't dried up my skin, nor has it made it oily.

The Clarins Toner range is definite must with them supply for people with Sensitive Skin, Normal/Dry and Combination/Oily.
You can then team your Toner up with a Gentle foaming cleanser or a cleansing milk, dependant on preference.

Holiday Blues

I have just got back from my holiday from this lush place in Crete. It was gorgeous and the weather was amazing, and I now have a ledge tan to show for it which is brilliant.
However I do have some cosmetic advice to share with you while on my travels.
I took along the Max factor Colour Adapt foundation, which is the one below with the pump. So while we were in flight the pressure pushed up the pump and made loads of the foundation squirt out, which was so annoying as that was such a waste.
So just a point, don't take a pump foundation on the plane, as the pressure will ruin it ha ha.

Clinique Powder

Ages and ages ago I purchased the Clinique Almost Powder make up in Deep which worked amazing with my Estee Lauder darker foundation.
Its lasted me ages and Ive just hit pan on it, So Ive just replaced it with a Neutral shade instead.

The packaging has changed and you get a sponge with it instead of a brush which is much better, and I think you get more of the product as well.
Its really good if you want to keep your foundation matte and avoid shine especially on a night out, and its not heavy at all. It looks as if you are barely wearing powder which is perfect.
Defiantly one to invest in if you cant afford the Estee Lauder Double Wear Powder. I think its about £22 from your local counter.

MaxFactor Colour Adapt Foundation

So since the Boujoir Healthy Mix failed me this is the next one I went for which doesn't contain any SPF.
And so far its been fine and hasn't ruined my skin at all. Now on the bottle it doesn't say anything about it being oil-free, but after doing some research it apparently is, so this is the SPF free foundation to go for without any break outs.

I got it in the colour Warm Almond, and its apparently supposed to adapt to your skin tone anyway.
All the colours in this range tend to have an undertone of yellow, so they are all pretty warm even the 'lighter' shades.

Liked Because:

It comes out a bit like a mousse, so its creamy and easy to work with on the skin. It spreads far and gives a good even coverage which tends to last through out the whole day.
Its not advertised as a long lasting foundation but its defiantly lasted me all day at work, with a great even coverage which leaves me with a healthy glow.

Didn't Like Because:

If you unwrap it you see that its not even a full bottle of foundation that you get as pretty much half of it is the pump to push it out. This is one thing that really annoyed me about it, as the Boujoir foundation uses a pump also but you still get a full bottle of foundation.
Really sneaky use of packaging, especially when you are spending over £9.00 on it.

Clarins Daily Energizer Cream

This is my new day time moisturiser, after being recommended it for my age. It doesnt have any anti ageing properties to it as it is designed for younger skin, so really good for teenagers and early twenties.
It helps with imperfections, such as blemishes and uneven skin tone, and puts a radiant youthful look back into the skin.
The Daily Energizer range is fairly new and you can pick up a 30ml jar for just £20.00 Thats a bargin especially for a Clarins Moisturiser.
At the moment I have been using mine day and night and I have found it amazing. It sinks into the skin so well, not to mention it smells gorgeous. So fresh and fruity that I love putting it on my skin.

It comes in three different textures so you can choose the one which you prefer for your skin type.

First you have the Clarins Daily Energizer Lotion SPF 15. Good if you want sun protection in your cream and its oil free.

Daily Energizer Cream which is the one I use, aimed at people with normal to dry skin for extra comfort.

And the Daily Energizer Cream Gel for Combination Oily skin types.

Collection 2000 Skyscraper Mascara

A few months back I won a competition from Andrex Clean Campaigns Facebook page and I won the Collection 2000 Skyscraper Mascara.
I don't tend to shop for Collection 2000 brand as I thought the quality would not be good as it is so cheap, but I found this mascara was amazing. It has one side of long bristles on the wand and the other is short ones.
So you can use each for your top and bottom lashes.

I was really impressed that it did not leave my eyelashes clumpy, nor did it fall down on my face through out the day and the tube actually lasted me a long time afterwards without clogging up.
Its good for separating the lashes, but if you want volume, then I would use it as a mascara base and layer over the top with a thicker mascara. This is what I have been doing and its worked a treat :)

If your looking for a cheap mascara then Collection 2000 is your brand, £2.99 you cant beat that for a cheap deal.
